Support Worker Assistant

Starting Date: 3rd December 2018
Pay:   £8.50 per hour
Closing date:  12th November 2018
Hours: 14 hours every two-week rota pattern.
Normal shift hours: 9.30pm-11.30pm

Job Purpose/Summary
At CHESS we have a commitment to “Engage” and support “Change” however big or small in people’s lives. It is important that we, at CHESS believe that people can change, but also realise that some people come from complex backgrounds and as a result, skills possessed by our service are utilised to facilitate engagement at all stages of homelessness. We believe our winter project is a vital instrument in this process and we are very proud of our success in recent years.

CHESS will be building on this success by providing the winter project for another year and we are looking for confident and committed assistants to work alongside the support worker in the first part of their waking shift to provide a safe place to sleep, guidance, and help for service users who would otherwise be on the streets. Successful applicants will also help provide food and drinks, put together assessments and note key services that could bring positive change for the individual. Security assistance is also provided.

This challenging, busy and rewarding position includes managing the expectations of guests at the CHESS winter project and applicants should be familiar in working with a hard to reach client group with multiple needs.

This role may be subject to a DBS check prior to appointment.

CONTRACT TERM– This post is a short-term contract (3 months, with a possible extension of another month dependent upon funding).

SHIFT ROTA -This role operates on a 2-week rolling rota with post holders working 3 nights on and 4 nights off one week and 4 nights on 3 off the other week. Post holders will work the days as allocated by the rota and may be expected to cover other shifts when necessary. All applicants should be available to work over the Christmas and New Year period.

Senior Support Worker

Hours: 55 hrs every two-week rota pattern
Shift hours: 9:30pm – 8:30am (Successful applicants maybe expected to stay on half an hour extra, one day a week, for a project meeting at The Hub at 200 New London Road)

SHIFTS –  This role operates on a 2-week rolling rota covering Tuesday to Saturday nights, inclusive, with post holders working 2 successive nights one week and 3 successive nights the next. Post holders will work the days as allocated by the rota and may be expected to cover other shifts when necessary.

Senior workers should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Demonstrable experience of working directly with rough sleepers, homeless people or vulnerable clients (e.g. in outreach, day centres or similar services)
  • Good knowledge of voluntary sector services and statutory rights of homeless people
  • Ability to deal flexibly with a broad range of people with challenging behaviour
  • Striving for equality of opportunity in the context of rough-sleeping and homelessness
  • Be keen to learn more about the effects of homelessness.
  • Have the ability to collect the required data and write reports
  • Write an assessment for the service user showing clear pathways that would support the individual in their life.
  • Ability to write reports for the provision on a weekly basis feeding back to the Client Support Senior Manager

Appointment to this role will be upon the successful completion of a DBS check
